Over mij:
Woof everybody,
some of you may recognize me from the site of my owner, but my girl thought I was definitely worth a site of my own. So here I am again!!! This way, more info about me can be given on the net and there can also be more pictures shown.
As you can see, my name is Laverton Yeoman aka Gizmo, but people who know me and love me may also call me Willempie, Wim, Wimpie, seut, onnozelaar, debiel, dipshit... as long as they mean it well :o)
I am a blue-merle australian shepherd dog, about 4 years old now. I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters. My mother was flown over from her home in Washington (USA) to the Laverton Kennels in Kessel-Lo (Belgium) when she was pregnant of us.
She is also a blue-merle aussie with 2 blue-eyes, so I must have inherrited that from her. Her name is Touchstone Third Degree aka Clue and she's a well known conformation champion. Also my father is a celebrated champ. He is named Artistics It Had to B'Fate (Berri), and he is a black-tri dog with 2 brown eyes. I have never met him in real life though, but who knows, maybe in the future...
Now, I want to tell you something about my character and temperament.
People who know me the best say that I am a very active dog, attentive and alert. I am known to be a VERY good guardian, I don't like strangers in my house, you know... but you can't blame me because I AM an Aussie, and Aussies have to guard the farms so they HAVE to be reserved with strangers. Though, I CAN be very sweet with strangers as long as they know how to handle me, hihi :o)
For my owners, I am the most gentle dog you can imagine. I love to be with them and I follow them all through the house (if I am allowed to). I really am their 'second shadow'. My girl likes that, but her parents often fall over me and than, you can hear a lot of grumble, but I know that they don't mean it bad and that they all love me very much :o)
What do you excpect? I don't only annoy them, you know, I work for them and I give them all the affection that my Aussie-heart owns. I participate in obedience, agility, doggy-dance, flyball and frisbee with my girl and of course, we often go for a LONG walk or run. I also run beside her if she's riding a bike. I adore all the things I do, because I am a real working dog ,and I would go NUTS if I wouldn't be able or allowed to work. I actually live to work and to please my owners. I am enthousiastic about EVERYTHING I have to do. In fact, my girl often tells me that she has never met someone who loves to work as much as I do :o)
She's so proud of me, and our bond still is becoming better and better every day. We are the BEST friends, though we sometimes have a little discussion when, for example, I'm trying to steal food from her parents. Then she gets REALLY mad!!!
But I can't help it. I love food as much as I love work, I think (except for my dogfood :o)
You can describe me as a beatiful, intelligent, very curious but reserved dog that loves to work and is enthousiastic about ANY job that is given to him. I get along with other pets and animals great, but I don't like most other dogs anymore because I've been attacked by them a couple times...
I don't seem to forget about that. Actually, I don't forget anything soon. I am a VERY, VERY quick learner but I also learn things that I better shouldn't know. That's right, I have a strange sense of humour and I will do ANYTHING to pull the attention of my humans. Because of that trait, and because my passion about food, it's easy to train me because you can reward me with food or a game (I absolutely LOVVVEEEE to play), and if I'm behaving silly, you just ignore me or walk away. If you do that, I calm down very soon. Calm? Now that's a word that I don't know very well. I can be calm in the house, if I am tired, but most of the time I am WIDE awake, busy playing, barking, licking someones boots, or finding something else to keep me busy.
To keep my mind and body healthy and stimulated, I am doing a lot of sports and trainings, as said above, but my girl has also found another easy and fun way to keep me thinking and going: she learns me tricks!!!
Not that it is of any use, but it IS cute to see me waving, bending, twisting, crawling, begging or something stupid like that :o)
When I say stupid, I have to tell you that I remember that word, because they constantly call me stupid. What they mean by that is that I can do very stupid things like falling over my own legs, running against the walls etc...
They don't mean that I am not smart because they know and have already experienced that I am A LOT smarter than the three of them together. For that, it is important to always keep 'two steps ahead of me' and think about why I am acting like this or like that.
I guess, I don't have to tell you anymore that I am a very fun dog to live with, but I am not an easy dog to live with, though. We have had a lot of troubles in the past because I am a very dominant dog. They even got me neutered for that!!!
But that didn't work. The only thing that can help to keep control over me, is letting me work and train me in a very positive way. So, my girl says she would never recommend a castration for a dominance problem anymore.
I wish she would have found that out sooner... Now I've lost my manhood and I can't show anymore.
But I wasn't meant to be a show dog anyway. Not that I'm not pretty as you can see, but I don't have the 'attitude' to show myself off in the ring. I think that's about the only job I don't like to do, and that's the main reason why my girl doesn't make me do it.
As you notice, she and her parents ADORE me, and I hope that you have also began to love me after you've read this text.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel welcome to send my girl an e-mail, and she will try to help you out. Be sure to look at the pictures and check back often for updates, and the most important thing: don't forget to have fun with your dog. Enjoy him for as long as he lives, respect him, but make sure he also respects you! Make him do something for you, that way he will know that you are the boss and he will become to love you and respect you heaps. Keep him healthy and active by letting him use his body and giving him enough exercise, it's healthy for you too. Keep his mind busy by letting him think, and letting him show innitiative. If you like what he is trying, reward it, if you don't like it, ignore it. It's the best way to train a dog! Take care of the social life of your dog as he can't go out himself (or shouldn't). You are responsible for the needs of your dog, as you are also responsible for his behaviour. Owning a dog takes a lot of perseverance, a lot of time, a lot of energy and most of all, a lot of love...
Take care of yourself and each other...
Greetings, Gizmo and Fenna XXX
